With so many different options, it can be difficult to know if you’re buying the right size of a football. Whether you’re looking to get a football for yourself or for kids, youth, or adults, the variety of sizes tend to be overwhelming if you’re not highly experienced in the sport.

That’s why we’ve put together a short and simple guide below to help you be sure you’re buying the best football-size for you.

What size of Football is right for me?

PEE WEE (Size 5)
Typically, for ages 6 through 9 and kids weighing between 75 and 120 pounds, a Pee Wee sized football is what you want.

JUNIOR (Size 6)
Junior footballs are best for kids 10 to 12 years of age. Look for footballs that are labeled as size 6.

INTERMEDIATE (Size 7)
Kids who are 12 years old can also use size 7 or intermediate football. This includes youth players ages 13 and 14 as well.

OFFICIAL (Size 9)
If you’re older than 14, you're ready for an “Official” or size 9 football.

Remember!

Keep in mind that there are no set rules for ages and football size. There is always going to be some crossover according to skill level and league structure. If you are enrolling your child in your local football program make sure to double-check with the league so you know what size to use.
